(MORE) MIMI AND MEPH'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURES IN CALIFORNIA

     — October 2009

On 19 August, Mimi and Meph returned to Vallejo to set up an exhibit at the California Maritime Academy. Thanks to help from many of the hospitable staff and faculty (Carl, Larry, Jim, Brett, Dave, and a host of others), everything was done on time, with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of fun.

Mimi returned to the Academy on 23 September to give a talk to faculty and students. The September-October issue of the Maritime Academy magazine "Currents" contains an article on this presentation. You can read the magazine online at  www.csum.edu . On the home page, you will find an icon for the magazine, which will allow you to read the whole issue. The article on Mimi's talk is on page 5. The direct link to the magazine is  SEPOCT09CURRENTS_001.pdf (PDF file 1.8MB).

She plans to give another in January or February of 2010. Dates for this event have not been confirmed, so, if you are interested in attending, either contact Mimi directly, or watch this site for more information.

The California Maritime Academy's campus is a lovely place, and is open to the public. We urge our friends in the San Francisco area to visit the exhibit, most of which is in the Simulation Center on Maritime Academy Drive. In the college library is a display of artifacts from the Solomon Islands, including a model tepuke. To find your way to or around the campus, visit the website
 MapsDirections

Both displays will remain in place until early May, 2010, when Mimi and Meph will return to dismantle them.

Hey Mimi-

See page 5 of our campus newsletter (URL below) regarding your presentation at Cal Maritime. I've received nothing but rave reviews about the presentation and the displays. Your research has really added a lot of value to our student's learning experience, not to mention our faculty and staff. I'm so glad we teamed up on this.

It is worth visiting the Academy just to see how good the sail looks!

AN EXCELLENT ADVENTURE on campus is a visit to
the Academy's state-of-the-art bridge simulators.
They really are amazing.
Here Jim shows Mimi how one of the simulators works.
